Projection: likely out
Rhode Island looks like an outside contender because its few résumé highs are swamped by damaging lows and a nonconference slate that won’t earn much respect from a committee. The Rams’ best moments are a road win at Yale and a neutral-site victory over Temple, but those are undermined by a neutral loss at Tulsa and a disappointing defeat to Towson, while wins over weak opponents do little to offset those blemishes. Rhode Island has shown it can win away from home, yet it still lacks a meaningful victory over a recognized opponent, so the rest of the schedule is crucial: home dates with Brown and Canisius and conference games against La Salle, Fordham and St Joseph’s are must-wins to stabilize the resume, and road tests at Providence, George Mason, Dayton and George Washington are the real resume-changers the program needs to seize. If the Rams take care of the manageable matchups and grab a signature road result their case improves, but failure to do so will leave them short on quality wins and burdened by bad losses.
